On Friday I was on a mission to change my spark plugs. I got some fancy iridium spark plugs months ago for my car and have been dying to slap them in. I'm no stranger to changing spark plugs, and it's not tough for me. But this was the first time I changed them in an Audi A4.
So I remove the coil packs and spark plugs. The old ones look ok. A little dark and a small amount of oil. Nothing to be concerned with. I slapped the new ones in. Tightened them up, and went home from my parent's house to my apartment.
I get up the next day to help my friend move. Figures, I can't make it a block away from my place without my car sounding like it's has emphysema and trying to run a marathon.
I went back to my parents house with my car unable to get up to 30 in less than 20 seconds. Took everything apart, regapped the plugs and torqued them correctly this time. Same thing. Through my troubleshooting I found out one of
the coil packs was shot. Great. With this being an Audi I knew I'd have to go to the dealer for the part. I borrowed my mom's car, drove 25 miles to Audi only to find out they're closed on the weekend.
I went to PepBoys and confirmed why I went to Audi first, they don't have it and the guy was amazed I'd even try going there for that part. (I did explain that Audi's parts department was closed.)
I went to choice number three on my list. VW's parts department. Amazingly they were open AND had the part I needed! I was almost out of luck because the guy at the desk said he couldn't get me the right part without a part number. Luckily I had the part in my back pocket. Sixty dollars and three hours later, I was on my way to my friends house to help him move. Too bad he was done already :(
